System maintenance: 04 - 08 Sept. 2023 (Extended until 12 Sept)

What will happen?

During this system maintenance, all hardware of ALICE will be moved. This means that ALICE will be completely offline for the entire week.

How does this impact me?

You will not be able to run jobs in ALICE or access your data during this period. In addition, we have to shutdown the entire cluster before the move starts.

While we do not expect loss of data due to this move, please remember to copy any data products from ALICE that you need to retain for your work.

Until when can I still work with ALICE?

Because we have to shutdown ALICE completely before the move, we will have to drain the entire cluster until Sunday, 03 Sept. 2023 at 16:00. A reservation is already in place, which will only allow jobs to run that can finish within this time frame. Longer jobs can be submitted, but will not be allowed to start. In addition, all running jobs will be terminated after the deadline. While not necessarily the case, it is likely that pending jobs will be cancelled and you will have to re-submit them.

When will ALICE be available again?

If all goes well, we expect ALICE to be available again on Monday, 11 Sept. 2023 Wednesday, 13 Sept. 2023

• 03 Sept. at 16:00: Cluster will go offline. All running jobs will be terminated

• 04 Sept.: Move of ALICE will begin

• 11 Sept.: ALICE expected to be available again.

What’s the status of the maintenance and ALICE?

• Update 04 Sept 2023: ALICE system maintenance has begun.

• Update 07 Sept 2023: ALICE is being re-connected and we have access to the management nodes again.

• Update 08 Sept 2023: We have made good progress in bringing up ALICE, but we also ran into some issues that we need to address before we bring the cluster back online. Therefore, the system maintenance has been extended until Tuesday, 12 Sept 2023
